Hypnosis is a naturally ocurring state of altered consciousness that enables you to access your own inner resources. It is these very resources that can help you bring about beneficial change. Under the guidance of a trained hypnotherapist it is completely natural and safe, with no harmful side effects. Do you remember when as a child you found yourself looking out of the window, perhaps at school, and before you knew it your mind had whisked you off somewhere else or you had become focused on a particular thought. The next thing you knew you could hear the teacher asking “Are you with us? You were miles away.” What you experienced at this, and other such times, is very similar to the experience of hypnosis. Some people have concerns about not being in control, and this is quite natural, but the therapist would merely be guiding you. How we like to explain it is to imagine you're in a car, the therapist has the map and is giving you suggestions of where you might want to go but you’re behind the steering wheel so you’re in control and it’s really up to you where you steer the car. |
